Many seek to gain clarity on the meaning of spirituality or a higher purpose. The higher purpose differs by individual and the seeking is a continual experience. I have been on this path of spiritual inquiry. In this journey, several with a similar mindset have traveled with me. My fellow travelers helped me become a better individual. The discussions and sessions I conducted with them became an inspiration for me to write.

How does a Hindu origin individual balance “seeking” with daily traditional practices? Can they put a rational lens on daily religious practices? To the inquisitive seeking mind, a plethora of questions arise. These questions seek to a connection between daily practices and a higher purpose.

  • What is spirituality?
  • Why do we have to worship so many deities?
  • Why do we offer flowers to a deity?
  • Why do we light a lamp?
  • Why do we follow horoscopes?
  • Why are some days considered auspicious?
  • Why do we go to a temple?

Religious or traditional practices are in the face of a Hindu as part of their life. A lack of knowledge of practices could result in a sense of guilt or ignorance. Understanding them is a better option. Be rational, become aware, integrate and partake.

Through the writings on this site, let us explore most of the daily practices of a practicing Hindu. Using spirituality as the foundation, let us surface and discuss sensitive topics.

Tradition and religious practices in their proper context trigger earnest discussions. Desire to reflect arises. The demarcation and dependency between practices and connection to divinity begin to emerge. And, for some this may be the higher purpose they aspire to achieve.

Over the years, we have blurred the lines between religion, tradition, and spirituality. The well-guided few are able to draw a distinction and understand the implications. A vast majority stand deprived of clarity. Explicit questions remain unanswered. Implicit doubts turn into stolid acceptance, executed due to fear or wrongdoing.

There are answers and authentic ones. The source of these answers is the Hindu scriptures of Gita and Upanishads. There is crystal clear clarity, no myths or ifs, and buts. The higher purpose seeker does not shy away from accepting the wisdom of these sources.
